International trainings on in vitro cultivation of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi
2008-11-20

Since 2005, the CEnter of Study on AM Monoxenics and the Glomeromycota IN vitro COllection organizes twice a year, an international training on the root organ culture technique of AM fungi. This training, limited to ten participants, has attracted more than 80 persons coming from Europe but also from the USA, Japan, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, Indonesia, Nigeria...

Two years ago, a new training was offered on the in vitro mycorrhization of whole plants. This new technique also attracted scientists, technicians and companies from over the world. The proposed training allowed the participants to master a new generation of AM fungus cultivation under strict controlled conditions, which follows the one offered by root-organ cultures (ROC).

In CESAMM and GINCO, 18 persons have made the in vitro cultivation of AMF their primary object of study to investigate various aspects from genetics to cell biology, biodiversity and physiology of AM fungi and their hosts. Non-destructive microscopic observations, reliable cell physiology studies, clean biochemical and molecular analyses, highly controlled interaction studies with other micro-organisms and the potential to develop reliable in vitro mycorrhization of micro-propagated plants at an industrial scale, are amongst the applications permitted by both these techniques.

It is the objective of CESAMM and GINCO to offer both trainings again in 2009 with the most up-to-dates advancements in the domain.

Registration is now open for the root organ cultivation training to be held on 19-24 April 2009 and for the plant system training to be held on 14-19 June 2009.

We hope to see you soon in Louvain-la-Neuve.

Yours sincerely,

Sylvie Cranenbrouck, Hervé Dupré de Boulois, Stéphane Declerck for the CESAMM and GINCO teams
