One way of reducing environmental pollution by heavy-metals is phytoremediation. Another strategy concern the utilisation, in combination with heavy metal tolerant plants, of the natural soil microorganisms, among which the mycorrhizal fungi. The objective of the research program is to study the role of mycorrhizal fungi, which are root symbiotic microorganisms, in phytostabilisation process and thier impact on heavy metal immobilisation in soil.
