International training on the in vitro cultivation of AMF on autotrophic plants (2007-02-15)

From the 24th to the 29th of June 2007, the CESAMM/GINCO teams are proposing the first international training on the in vitro cultivation of AM fungi on autotrophic plants.

The techniques for in vitro cultivation of AM fungi on autotrophic plants have been recently developed (Voets et al., 2005; Dupré de Boulois et al., 2006), opening new avenues to study AM fungus-plant associations. These systems can be used for a wide array of research topics. Indeed, they offer unique advantages in genetics, cell biology, biodiversity and physiological investigations of AM fungi and their hosts. Non-destructive microscopic observations, reliable cell physiology studies, clean biochemical and molecular analyses, highly controlled interaction studies with other micro-organisms and the potential to develop reliable in vitro mycorrhization of micro-propagated plants at an industrial scale, are amongst the applications permitted by this technique.

The proposed training will allow you to master a new generation of AM fungus cultivation under strict controlled conditions, that follows the one offered by root-organ cultures (ROC). In this respect, the techniques to obtain the Half-closed Arbuscular Mycorrhizal - Plant (HAM-P) and Arbuscular Mycorrhizal - Plant (AM-P) in vitro cultures systems will be teached.

This training will be entirely devoted to the culture of AM fungi on autotrophic plants. The methodologies that will be presented are routinely used by the GINCO and CESAMM teams. Members of these two entities will show you all the techniques that you will need to obtain successful cultures.

This training is directed to technicians, students, senior scientists, and companies interested in developing this technique.
